Garmin has had an exceptionally busy 2026. From a new generation of fēnix smartwatches and its first screen-free fitness band to AI-powered automotive technology, next-generation avionics and a major expansion of its digital coaching ecosystem, Garmin’s latest releases demonstrate just how far the company now extends beyond GPS watches.
As of 1 September 2026, here are the biggest Garmin product launches, innovations and company developments of the year so far.
Garmin launches the fēnix 9 and fēnix 9 Pro
Garmin’s biggest recent consumer announcement came on 25 August with the introduction of the fēnix 9 and fēnix 9 Pro.
The latest generation of Garmin’s flagship multisport GPS smartwatch introduces enhanced stamina metrics and Garmin Epic, which lets users group several activities into a single shareable story in Garmin Connect.
The premium fēnix 9 Pro takes Garmin’s connected-adventure strategy even further. It features a titanium watch case, Garmin’s largest AMOLED display yet on a fēnix, plus built-in satellite and LTE connectivity for messaging, calls and SOS functionality directly from the watch.
Garmin simultaneously introduced ArcheryX, a new smartwatch activity capable of analysing an archer’s bow-arm and body movement. The feature records metrics including shot execution time and movement immediately before release, with deeper analysis available through Garmin’s ShotView app.
Together, the announcements underline Garmin’s continued strategy of combining specialist sports functionality with increasingly sophisticated health, performance and communications technology.
Garmin enters the screen-free fitness tracker market with CIRQA
One of Garmin’s more surprising launches arrived in July.
The CIRQA Smart Band is Garmin’s first screen-free health and fitness tracker, bringing the company into a category increasingly focused on passive, distraction-free health monitoring.
CIRQA provides continuous health and activity tracking, up to 10 days of battery life and access to its data through Garmin Connect. Importantly, Garmin says the device does not require a subscription.
That makes CIRQA strategically interesting. Rather than asking customers to replace their Garmin smartwatch, Garmin positions the band as another device within the Garmin ecosystem that users can move between throughout their day.
Garmin strengthens its training ecosystem with TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic
Garmin’s biggest corporate move of the year came on 22 July when it announced the acquisition of TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic.
TrainingPeaks is well established among endurance athletes and coaches, while TrainHeroic focuses heavily on strength and performance training. Garmin says bringing the two platforms into its ecosystem will expand access to customisable and professional coaching experiences.
The significance goes beyond adding another pair of apps to Garmin’s portfolio. Garmin already owns the hardware, sensors, activity data and Garmin Connect platform used by millions of athletes. Owning sophisticated coaching platforms creates opportunities to connect that data more directly with structured training and human coaching.
It is therefore one of the clearest indications yet that Garmin wants to own more of the complete athlete experience, rather than simply supplying the device that records it.
Forerunner gets a refresh
Runners also received new hardware this year with the Forerunner 70 and Forerunner 170, launched in May.
Both running watches feature 1.2-inch AMOLED displays, touchscreen interfaces alongside Garmin’s traditional five-button controls, health monitoring and training functionality. Garmin positioned the devices for runners ranging from those beginning their running journey to athletes wanting more structured training data.
The launch helps broaden Garmin’s running range beneath its premium multisport products while continuing the company-wide move towards AMOLED displays.
Garmin has also continued adding features to existing watches rather than reserving innovation exclusively for new hardware. A February software update expanded gear tracking and introduced additional fitness, health and connected functionality across products including the Venu X1, vívoactive 6, fēnix 8 Pro, Forerunner 570 and Forerunner 970.
Other ecosystem developments have included WhatsApp functionality on compatible Garmin smartwatches and an integration with Natural Cycles that allows selected watches to contribute data to its FDA-cleared birth-control application.
Garmin expands satellite connectivity across specialist watches
Satellite connectivity has become another major theme for Garmin.
January brought the quatix 8 Pro, a nautical smartwatch using Garmin inReach technology to provide satellite and cellular connectivity. Users can access two-way messaging, voice calling and SOS functionality away from traditional mobile coverage.
Garmin followed this in April with the D2 Mach 2 Pro, its first aviator smartwatch equipped with inReach. Alongside satellite and cellular communications, the watch incorporates aviation maps, weather information, pilot health monitoring and PlaneSync compatibility.
With inReach capabilities now extending through increasingly specialised wearable categories and into the fēnix 9 Pro, satellite communication is becoming an important differentiator across Garmin’s premium portfolio.
Golf technology continues to expand
Garmin has also introduced several products targeting different types of golfer.
January saw the launch of Approach J1, which Garmin describes as the first GPS golf watch designed specifically for junior golfers. Features such as tee-off guidance, personal par and a pace-of-play timer are intended to help younger players learn the game.
The company also announced the Approach G82, a golf handheld featuring Garmin’s largest display in the category and new putting metrics, alongside updates to its Home Tee Hero golf simulator platform.
In July, Garmin introduced the compact Approach Z10 laser rangefinder. Its Range Relay functionality can send measured distances to a compatible Garmin watch, handheld or the Garmin Golf app, connecting another piece of golf hardware into the wider Garmin ecosystem.
Cycling becomes more connected
Garmin opened February with the Varia RearVue 820, described by the company as its brightest and most powerful radar tail light for cyclists.
More recently, Garmin expanded its indoor cycling offering with the Tacx NEO 2T with Zwift Cog and Click.
Announced on 18 August, the trainer arrives ready for platforms including Zwift and ROUVY, with Zwift Cog designed to improve bike compatibility and Zwift Click providing virtual shifting and in-game controls from the handlebars. Power and cadence accuracy is specified to within 1%.
The direction is similar to Garmin’s broader strategy: remove friction between its hardware and the digital platforms athletes already use.
Garmin pushes further into motorsport technology
Garmin has made several notable moves into performance driving during 2026.
February's Garmin Catalyst 2 combines a display and built-in camera with real-time coaching and post-session analysis. Garmin's True Optimal Lap feature constructs an achievable best lap from sections already driven by the user, while additional functionality supports drag-racing performance measurement.
The company simultaneously introduced the zūmo XT3, its latest motorcycle GPS. Among its new features is live lean-angle measurement, with post-ride statistics available through Garmin's Tread app.
Then in June came the Garmin Catalyst R1, a racing radar designed to warn drivers about vehicles approaching from behind using indicator lights placed within their field of vision. Garmin describes it as a first-of-its-kind system aimed at improving overtaking, defending and situational awareness on track.
AI becomes central to Garmin’s automotive vision
Some of Garmin’s most ambitious innovation this year has appeared not in its consumer devices but in automotive OEM technology.
At CES in January, Garmin unveiled Unified Cabin 2026, built around an AI/LLM-based conversational assistant. The system can understand contextual follow-up requests, execute several actions from one instruction, operate across languages and deliver information to individual seats using seat-aware displays and audio.
Garmin also expanded its relationship with Qualcomm by announcing Nexus, a high-performance automotive computing platform based on Snapdragon technology. Nexus is designed to consolidate functionality including infotainment, instrument clusters and advanced driver-assistance systems into a common computing architecture, with Garmin targeting vehicle programmes beginning in 2029.
A third CES demonstration connected Garmin Unified Cabin with the Meta Neural Band, using electromyography to interpret finger gestures and control vehicle infotainment functions. Although presented as an OEM proof of concept rather than a production product, it demonstrates how Garmin is experimenting with new interfaces beyond touchscreens and voice.
Major innovation in Garmin Marine
Marine electronics have been another significant innovation area.
March saw Garmin announce a 360-degree scanning sonar system and motorised Spy Pole. The technology can create overhead-style 2D and 3D views of fish and underwater structures surrounding a boat, while the Spy Pole allows independent control of LiveScope sonar rather than tying its direction to the trolling motor.
Garmin followed this with LiveScope 2 in July, its latest live sonar generation, designed to produce clearer underwater imagery while integrating with equipment including the Spy Pole and GT360UHD transducer.
May also brought the Garmin Signal VHF 400 and VHF 220 marine radios. They feature compact designs and 3.5-inch colour touchscreens, while the premium VHF 400 incorporates a Class B AIS transponder for transmitting vessel position and movement information to nearby AIS-equipped boats.
Garmin continues to reinvent the aircraft cockpit
Aviation remains one of Garmin's most technically advanced businesses, and July produced two particularly significant announcements.
First came AXIS, a new family of highly integrated flight displays. Certain configurations combine a flight display, IFR GPS, NAV/COMM radio and audio-panel functionality into a single unit. Garmin says the architecture can reduce aircraft weight and simplify installation while serving certified, experimental and light-sport aircraft.
Just over a week later, Garmin unveiled G2000 PRIME, bringing technology developed for its higher-end G3000 PRIME platform to high-performance piston and electric aircraft. The integrated flight deck uses touchscreen displays, a redesigned interface and extensive connectivity with the goal of reducing pilot workload.
Garmin has simultaneously expanded the software side of aviation, adding functionality to Garmin Pilot, SmartCharts and PlaneSync throughout the year. Its SmartCharts product most recently expanded into Canada and Mexico on 26 August.
The company is investing in physical aviation capacity too. In February it acquired an approximately 75,000-square-foot hangar and office complex at Mesa Gateway Airport in Arizona to expand certification and flight-test operations.
Garmin expands beyond its traditional technology categories
Garmin’s acquisition of JL Audio continues to create new product categories for the business.
In May, it unveiled the JL Audio Primacy home audio system, which combines amplification, digital signal processing and speakers with room optimisation through its CS network streamer and processor.
June brought JL Audio Pavilion thin-line subwoofers designed for discreet indoor or outdoor installation.
These releases demonstrate how Garmin is applying its hardware engineering and connected-device expertise beyond navigation, fitness and outdoor technology.
Strong financial results give Garmin room to keep investing
Garmin’s product expansion has coincided with strong financial performance.
In February, the company reported record 2025 revenue of $7.25 billion, up 15% year on year, with every business segment achieving record annual revenue. Garmin shipped more than 20 million units during the year and announced a new $500 million share repurchase programme.
Momentum continued into 2026. First-quarter revenue reached approximately $1.75 billion, up 14%, while operating income increased 30% to $432 million.
Second-quarter results were stronger again: Garmin reported approximately $2.02 billion in revenue, an 11% year-on-year increase, while operating income climbed 30% to $616 million. The company also raised its full-year guidance.
Shareholders have meanwhile approved a $4.20-per-share dividend payable in four quarterly instalments through March 2027.
What Garmin’s 2026 launches tell us
Taken together, Garmin’s 2026 announcements reveal several clear priorities.
The company is expanding the idea of the Garmin ecosystem. Watches increasingly connect with satellite communications, specialist sporting equipment, apps and coaching platforms. Acquiring TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic could deepen that relationship considerably by connecting recorded performance data with structured coaching.
At the same time, Garmin is transferring technologies between markets. Radar expertise used in cycling is appearing in motorsport. Satellite communication is spreading through specialist watches. AI is becoming part of Garmin’s automotive platform. Sonar is becoming increasingly integrated and automated, while aviation displays are consolidating more cockpit functions into fewer systems.
And Garmin is diversifying. The company that many consumers associate primarily with GPS watches now spans health tracking, coaching software, motorsport radar, marine sonar, automotive AI, aircraft avionics and premium home audio.
With the fēnix 9 family arriving at the end of August and Garmin having raised its financial outlook in July, the company enters September 2026 with considerable momentum — and with one of the broadest technology portfolios in the connected-device market.
